I tried installing sql server express on my computer but it failed. I have windows 7 x64 home premium installed. Three quarters of the way through the install the error "Could not find the Database Engine startup handle" failed. There is nothing on the internet that addresses this error for the express version. In subsequent posts, my logs will be listed.

Hello,
c0000005 means access violation. When this error occurs it generates a dump file that should be analyzed. Microsoft CSS could analyze it for you. I don’t know how to analyze that dump file.
One thing you can try is disable any antivirus/security software on your computer, and try to install one more time.
You can also examine the system error log at the operating system level (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools –> Event Viewer) looking for errors.
Hope this helps.

I uninstalled Avira Antivirus and disabled the Windows Firewall. In addition whenever i want to add an exception to Windows Firewall and click the allow programs through a firewall button, nothing happens. I even set the rights for the Microsoft SQL Server folder for all users to have full control. I uninstalled the database engine again then reinstalled it. The same error occurred. I tried to unset the read only attribute on the Microsoft SQL Server but it kept resetting back to the read only attribute. I'm lost at this point. The event viewer gave me this info:
Could not load the DLL security.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 193(security.dll is not a valid Win32 application.).
- EventData security.dll 193(%1 is not a valid Win32 application.)

Other warnings I found in eventviewer:
A provider, SQLServerEventProvider, has been registered in the Windows Management Instrumentation namespace root\Microsoft\SqlServer\ServerEvents\MSSQLSERVER to use the LocalSystem account. This account is privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not correctly impersonate user requests.

The source of the above warnings is WMI.

Hello,
Seems like a security software did something with the security properties on the disk partition.
I would like to recommend you Microsoft Security Essentials. It is free and less invasive.
Hope this helps.

I already have the software I needed to protect my computer (Sophos, Super Antispyware, Malwarebytes) . What you just told me doesn't tell me anything in regards to my error and fixing it. What do you suggest I do? Downloading MSE won't do anything and I'm not looking for a workaround. One other note: this started happening one I took WAMPServer off my computer.

Hello,
I would recommend you to post about those errors/warnings on a Windows 7 forum. Maybe there you may find somebody to fix that disk partition for you.
I am not sure if repairing Windows 7 could help.
Hope this helps.

Are you certain that it is a Win 7 OS error and not a SQL Server error only? Because nothing else I've installed has given me this problem before. So for now is SQL Server unusable for me?

It hasn't worked so far. The same database handle error keeps occurring with the same access violation error occurring again. One warning that keeps getting generated during installation is this:
"Rule Firewall" generated a warning. Make sure the appropriate ports are open to enable remote access. See rules documentation for info. ..."
Will this rule affect SQL Server in any way? I noticed that many people just ignore it.

Hello,
No that rule should not affect at all. It is not related to the issue.
However, if you would like to get rid of that warning just disable Windows Firewall using Control Panel or configure it using the following article:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc646023(v=sql.110).aspx
Hope this helps.

I tried disabling the firewall, then I added a rule using the Windows Firewall with Advanced Settings feature. I followed the directions exactly then I reinstalled sql server again. It still failed with the exact errors again. I'm starting to wonder if Apache messed something up when I installed wampserver. The security.dll fixes didn't work either. It is still there as well. I even tried restoring my system to before I had both wamp and sql server installed. Again to no avail. Is there anything else to try aside from a factory reset?
